How to Die in Your Sins

February 3, 2013

It could be said that the Jews were highly religious.  It could be said that the Jews were extremely devout in what they believed.  It could be said that the Jews were steeped in religious tradition and history.  The Jews were committed to keeping the Sabbath (5:1-16), studying the Word given to them from God Himself (5:39), and keeping the three annual Feasts – Passover, Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles.  God had commanded these to be celebrated and the Jews had been obedient (see 2:22, 5:1, 7:2).  However, even though the Jewish people had done all of this, Jesus tells them that they would “die in your sins” if they thought all of this activity was enough to save their souls.  Why?  What else did they need to do? Today, we will see what the Jews were lacking and how it is our only hope to secure forgiveness for our sins.   We are grateful you are with us today!
