The role of all priests is to be a bridge to “God” (regardless of the religion). The author of Hebrews is using this common understanding to compare whether Jesus or Aaron (e.g. Tribe of Levi) is THE bridge to the one and true God. The point being made is that Jesus is not simply a better priest but that Jesus replaces the need for a priest completely! This was and is a shocking truth that we will continue to explore today.
